At Cedar Ridge Academy Private International Therapeutic Boarding School, the Cedar Ridge Young Pups are the school’s basketball team. Their coaches are Sam and Wes. They have an age range from 14-18. They practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00-12:00 and on Friday and Saturday from 1:00-3:00. The boys really enjoy playing on the team.

This year the Cedar Ridge Young Pups went undefeated in the Junior Jazz division. They won a prize of movie tickets for the entire team. Now the Cedar Ridge Young Pups are in the men’s division and they are playing much harder opponents. They are putting in lots of good effort to win as many games as they can this year. Their coaches, Sam and Wes, also play in the men’s division, but on a different team so the Cedar Ridge Young Pups play their coaches team. You have to be 16 years old to be able to play in the men’s division so some of the younger players go to the games to help support their team. The team plays the other local high schools that are around the area.
Playing on the basketball team really helps us learn how to work as a team and to help each other out. There are also lots of times when someone will get triggered and we learn how to deal with it in a healthy way where we are not bringing our other teammates down as well. A trigger is when you are upset about something that someone did and you might start to feel your fist clench up or your breathing quicken. Every person gets triggered in a different way. So on the basketball team, lots of triggers will come up during practice and during the games. This is a really good place to learn how to deal with your triggers and to talk to your peers about what is going on for you in the moment.

The team uses some of the same motivation and effort that they put in on the court--off the court. If someone that is on the team is not doing all the work that they need to get done in school then they will not be able to go to some of the games. So this is a strong motivation to do well in school as well as outside the school for the players on the Cedar Ridge Young Pups basketball team.
